2014 will mark Nā Koa Kai Canoe Club’s 4th Annual Keiki Heihei Waʻa (youth canoe regatta). This event attracts youths from all over California, Arizona, and Hawaiʻi. One of the founders of Nā Koa Kai Canoe Club, Uncle Gus Cervantes, felt that the nā ʻōpio (youths) on the mainland didn’t have a canoe regatta or event dedicated just to them. So four years ago he initiated the First Annual keiki heihei Waʻa. The event continues to grow each year with greater and wider participants. This year we hope to have several teams from Hawaiʻi bless our waters with their skill.
